2's made to pay for dropped catches

The 2s travelled to Blandford in search of their 1st away win of the season. Once again Captain Dave Spencer put the home team into bat without a toss of a coin.

This seemed a slip in the skippers judgement as it took 15 minutes to bowl 19 balls for the first 2 overs of the game!! Ekkk. But after they found their rhythms the bowlers rewarded this early decision with reducing Blandford to 96 for 6. A special mention has to go to Chris Van Rensburg for his marvellous catch. Standing at mid on and watching the opening bat trying (and failing) to swat everything from outside off his way Chris had hardly touched the ball. That was I till the 5th over when willow met leather and the ball was sent flying just above head height 6ft wide of Chris. After 2 steps sideways he took off 1 hand raised and plucked the ball out of the air. Amazing stuff from the 2s overseas player!!! Regular wickets fell in the lead up to drinks with Blandford 82-5. Alas Poole let Blandford back into the game with a few catches going to ground and they ended up with a well played 245. A mention goes out to G Mitchell and opposition Captain A Sullivan for 69* and 85 respectively, batting superbly to make the most of being dropped.

In reply R Lutman played well for an unbeaten 55 but with regular wickets falling around him Poole managed 180-7. Only a 73 run partnership with D Quinn offered us a chance to get close.

Next up with Puddletown at the park. The 1st away win will have to wait a week. Small mercy this week was that 3 out of 5 games in the league were abandoned due to rain.
