Miller to the rescue as Poole Town earn a last ball tie

Poole travelled to Sherborne on a lovely sunny day with 3 1st team debutants name in the match eleven in Aryan Mehta, Charlie Arnold and Mike Stonier.

Sherborne won the toss and decided to bat but Poole soon had Sherborne in trouble at 14-2. The first wicket was an excellent caught and bowled by Badrul Alam and the second an excellent run out by debutant Charlie Arnold. However a steady 72 partnership took the Sherborne score to 86 before the introduction of Wormington brought an end to Khun. The excellent Arnold together with Wilson had slowed down the run rate and Wormington made hay as the lower middle order tried to move things on. Wormington returned excellent figures of 5-47 but it was Kirk with 2-26 that was probably the days best bowler.

Chasing 171 to win Poole were up against right from the start as both Van Wyk and Alam departing before the score had reached 15. The two left handlers (Stonier 41 and Quinn 24)then took the score up to 72 with a fine 50 partnership. A tumble of quick wickets saw Poole fall to 106-7.Wormington then put on 23 with Miller before falling lbw. Captain David Miller has been in this situation many times and together with Kirk kept the score ticking along against some consistent Sherborne bowling. With 2 overs to go Poole need 20 and with one over to go 10 were required. Some excellent running between the wickets saw Poole need 3 off the last ball. It was just a step too far as Miller hit one into the deep on the leg side but could only manage 2 runs.

So the game ended in a tie, a fair result at the end of the day with Poole taking a lot of positives and negatives from the day.

Next game is Stalbridge at Poole Park.
