Peter Dooker - Club Legend

It is with the greatest sadness that I am sharing with you the news that our Club President, Pete Dooker, passed away this morning.

Pete was Chairman of Poole Town Cricket Club and, before the merger with Poole Cricket Club, of Poole Old Grammarians Cricket Club for nearly 40 years before standing down in 2018.

As Chairman Pete provided stability and strength at a time when results on the pitch were nothing to shout about.  But following the merger we got stronger and stronger.  Having won the Dorset Premier League for the first time in 2002 the Club has experienced an unprecedented period of success.  We have not finished outside of the Top 4 since 2000.

As well as being Chairman Pete ran the 250 Club (a very important contributor to Club funds), raised sponsorship, ran the Poole Cricket Association, umpired for the Evening League side, played when we needed him to, scored, emptied the cellars of many a pub on tour and loyally supported our teams home and away throughout the County.

Pete also enjoyed a distinguished career playing for and captaining both the Old Grammarians and Ramblers for many years.

In words it is very difficult to do justice to the work which Pete undertook for the Club but be in no doubt that everybody involved with the Club now and in the past owes Pete a huge thank you.

I understand that it is likely that Pete’s funeral will be a small, family event which is unfortunately a requirement in these strange times but hopefully it will be possible for the family to hold a memorial service once it is safe for larger gatherings to take place.

As a Club we will of course honour Pete’s memory in an appropriate manner when we are able to do so. He will be greatly missed.

Nick Williams

Chairman
