Poole 1sts slip to second defeat in a row in loss to Broadstone.

Broadstone elected to insert Poole into bat rather than toss a coin and it was soon obvious why. With both Broadstone opening bowlers hitting a good length and achieving considerable movement off the seam and through the air Poole were soon in trouble at 20-6. A 50 run partnership between Spencer and Miller took the score to over 70 but with Miller out LBW the innings quickly folded and Poole were all out for 106.

The only Poole batsman to get to double figures were Miller, Spencer and Wormington with the pick of Broadstone’s bowlers being Holm with 3-7 and Rowe with 3-26.

Poole needed early wickets and James Kirk obliged, removing both openers for 0. A 35 run partnership for the third wicket came to an end with a brilliant bit of combined fielding between Alam and Wormington resulting in the run out of the dangerous Park.

For a few overs it was game on with all bowlers putting in tidy spells. However with the game in the balance at 69-5 Rowe came to the crease and with some impressive hitting managed to get Broadstone over the line with just over 5 overs to spare.

A good fighting display from the bowlers but in the end there just wasn’t enough runs to play with.

Another big game this Saturday as Poole visit Dorchester.
