Poole Town return much needed win against Wimborne

Poole Town CC 1st XI returned to form with a bang in The Park on Saturday.

Wimborne elected not to toss the coin and asked Poole to bat first with the hosts soon in trouble with both Aryan Mehta and new father Badrul Alam back in the pavilion with only 4 runs on the board, both falling victim to Ed Bartlett. Jay Van Wyk and Ciaran Quinn managed to steady the ship with a mini partnership to up the score up to 40 before Van Wyk was out caught behind off the bowling of Harrison Bowles, bringing Rich Armstrong to the middle to mark his guard. Quinn and Armstrong then took command, amassing a hard working partnership of 170 with only 12 boundaries scored, some serious running on a warm day and superb shot selection against the Wimborne bowling attack. Quinn was first to go after scoring 111, his second hundred of the season. Armstrong soon followed for a well compiled 54 and Poole’s innings closed on an excellent 243-7.

The Wimborne openers started as if the meant business and 35 runs scored before the introductions Daddy Alam. Bowling with a permanent smile on his face Alam cut through the Wimborne batting line up and finished with outstanding figures of 5-8. Wormington also joined in the party finishing with figures of 4-12. Wimborne were quickly bowled out for 73 with only Colin Randall reaching double figures with 30. A gritty, yet much needed victory for Poole by 170 runs. A real confidence boost for Poole and it’s away at Shroton next week.
