Wonder Wormo - Poole Towns Own Superhero!

Poole travelled to Christchurch with a much changed team and anticipated a difficult game against the newly promoted young team who had started the season well. A steady opening partnership between Ben Edgell and Aryan Mehta gave Poole hope of a big score but all the batsman kept finding ways of getting out when they seemed set for a big score. This was all except for the excellent Badrul Alam who continued his fine form with an excellent hard fought 50. Contributions of 27 from Lewis Marais and 35 from Joey Wormington took Poole to a competitive total of 197.

James Kirk has come to the party the last few weeks and his good form continued with an excellent early spell where he could count himself unlucky to come away with only the one wicket. Christchurch then dug in and put on 100 for the second wicket. However the scoring rate was well below par with Joe Wilson and Badrul Alam putting the brakes on. Christchurch then started to turn on the heat and boundaries started to come thick and fast. Poole started to feel the pressure and as a result catches were not taken. Joey Wormington was brought on and despite an early wicket was soon up against it as he was hit for 3 sixes in quick succession. With 12 needed off 3 overs and with 5 wickets left Poole were dead and buried. However this Poole team is made of strong stuff. When Joey Wormington came on to bowl the penultimate over 9 runs were required with 5 wickets still remaining. His first ball had the batsman caught behind, his second ball bamboozled the batsman resulting in an easy stumping for Miller and the third ball again left the batsman in no mans land and Miler did the rest. A hat trick maiden ensued and it was game on!

With 3 Five for's in as many weeks, league rules permit Mr Wormington to bowl with his pants outside his trousers

Enter Marais- the master of death bowling! The Christchurch tail enders had no answer to Marais who bowled to his field, cleverly using the stumps to help stop a shot going for a certain four! Two run outs later and Poole had won a great game of cricket. Special mention to Jack Bassett and John Fairless for giving their all in the field and well played to Christchurch who played such a big part in such a cracking game.
