Summer has arrived! Time for shorts, suntan lotion, ice creams and for batsman to start scoring lots of runs! Martinstown, having arrived at Poole Park full of confidence after a decent start to the season, won the toss and decided to bat first. After a couple of close calls Gerety and Kershaw quickly moved the total on to 39 before Kirk hit the middle stump and Gerety was on his way. At 60-1 Martinstown were going along quite nicely. Jackson then took two wickets in 2 balls and panic seemed to set in! Wickets then began to fall at a steady rate with wickets shared between Wilson (3), Jackson (2), Rushton (2) and Wormington (2) as Martinstown were all out for 98.
Against a family attack of Stewart and Stewart, Van Wyk and Alam were quickly back in the pavilion and Poole were 17-2. Stonier (27) and Kear (24) went on the attack and a fine 51 partnership ensued. However Stonier, Kear and Armstrong were out in quick succession and Poole were suddenly 76-5. With no more alarms Poole entered the 90’s with a strong scent of victory. However 91-5 quickly became 95-8 and it was game on. Rushton was still there though and with the help of Kirk they managed to get Poole over the line with a two wicket win.
Onto Broadstone away next week.
