Poole Town 4th XI hosted Weymouth 2nd XI at Whitecliff. Weymouth so far unbeaten this season looked to have an experienced and well drilled team before the game had even started.
There was no toss as the Weymouth captain took advantage of the new rule and inserted Poole.
A solid start from Mouer and Finlayson kept Poole in the game although runs were not easy to come by against the opening bowlers.
Winwood and B. Michael were the outstanding performers in the batting lineup with Winwood scoring 45 and B. Michael scoring 16 and hanging around allowing Winwood to rack up some runs. After Winwood fell, Poole town collapsed for not many, ending the innings 94 all out.
Tea was a highlight with Andrew Milner preparing what was a fantastic feast for the players, which received very positive remarks from both home and away players alike.
Weymouth came in to bat with youth at one end and many many years experience at the other. An attacking field was set with wickets the only chance of victory for Poole town. Weymouth ticked runs over slowly, knowing that time was on their side. M. Williams opened the bowling and bowled very well, with Winwood turning the ball from the other end. Edges went down and confidence went up for the batting side. Weymouth eventually reaching Poole’s total in only 18 overs. Aldous taking the only wicket for Poole, helped by a tremendous catch by Winwood.
The whole game was played in good humour and spirit throughout and we look forward to being welcomed by Weymouth later in the season.
