Poole win thriller in the Park! Another beautiful Saturday afternoon saw Sherborne win the toss and decide to bat. The Sherborne openers were quickly into their stride with the prolific Josh Lawrence to the fore. Boundaries were coming thick and fast and the score very quickly moved onto to 70 before Lawrence tried to hit out one too many times and Arnold held an excellent catch off Wilson. Arnold then produced his best bowling for Poole and Sherborne slipped to 81-4. Pulling and Lock then put on 58 for the next wicket before Lock was out LBW to the leagues leading wicket taker Wormington. Pulling was eventually out for a well made 63 and the Sherborne innings closed at 199. All the bowlers managed to take wickets with Arnold having the best figures of 3-24. A quick mention here for Marais who came on for one over and managed to get rid of the dangerous Pulling! Poole setout to chase 200 and our two South Africans took the score up to 38 before Jay VW chipped to mid wicket. Stonier was next to go with the score on 52 for an entertaining 26. Three wickets then fell in quick succession to leave Poole in a precarious position at 85-5. With Ciaran Quinn in A&E with a chipped tooth Poole were in serious trouble. Call for Miller and Wormington! Batting with great patience and skill a 90 run partnership ensued. Wormington fell for an excellent 32 with 25 runs still needed. Arnold fell immediately and Kirk came to the crease. With great assurance Kirk and Miller knocked the required runs off with an over to spare with 2 wickets remaining. Another special Miller and he carried his bat for an excellent 52. This was a great win against an excellent Sherborne side. Onto Stalbridge away next week! with Poole up to third place in the league!
A special mention to Ciaran Quinn for returning from A&E to bat with his mouth a mess after taking a ball to the face and losing part of a tooth and tearing open his bottom lip.
