Walkers Wary of Waring's Whitecliff Walloping

After last weeks win the 3’s were in confident mood ahead of their first home game of the season, recently promoted Shaftesbury 2’s had no game last week so an exciting game for all to look forward to!

Shaftesbury captain decided to honour the toss as he said he was a traditionalist, he therefore won it and still chose to bowl first! This pleased captain Pocknell as he knew he had a very strong batting line up in his squad!

Pilley and Waring opened the batting at a steady pace, unfortunately Pilley 11 fell early again after his hands did not listen to his head! Smashing a short ball to mid wicket who took an easy catch, Hobbs 21 was next in and put on a 50 run partnership with Waring before he was bowled. Pocknell was in next putting on a 100 partnership with Waring taking the score to 171-3 off 28 overs, Hall was in next and scored a solid 32 not out. Waring finishing the innings in style by hitting a 4 off the final ball, he lead everyone off scoring 149 not out off 116 balls. However Heckford had a look through the scorebook afterwards and counted it to be 157, a fantastic knock from the 18 year old who missed last season due to injury.

After tea Brindley and Perry opened the bowling, some very tight lines made it hard to score as Shaftesbury only scored 25 runs off their first 10 overs. No wickets fell even though there were a couple chances, a fielding position change for Hobbs might be needed soon. The first change duo that tore Marnhull apart last week came in and wickets started to fall, Beagley took 3 wickets and Winwood took 1. By now Shaftesbury were just playing for batting points as they needed to scored 10 runs an over after drinks to win the game. Wickets were tough to come by but you couldn’t get that Waring guy out of the game as he took 3 wickets in a 6 over spell. Alex Edwards on debut had one of the most frustrating debuts for Poole Town, the luck was just not on his side even though he bowled superbly well.

After their 40 overs Shaftesbury managed a mere 130-7, giving the 3’s a 147 run win! Back to back wins to start the season for the 3’s has left them top of the league, long may this nice run of form continue!

Without a shadow of a doubt Conor Waring was man of the match with his 157 not out and 3-11 with the ball, he also took two catches! The fact that he only brought one jug in the bar before being dragged home by his Mrs was the only thing he did wrong all day. He did say he can only play away at Portland next weekend..

Poole Town 3's - 277/3 (40)

Waring - 157*

Shaftesbury - 130/7 (40)

Waring - 3/11

Beagley - 3/25
