Weather dampens opening day for Millers Men

The first league game of the season saw newcomers to the Dorset Premier League Cattistock & Symene turn up at a rather cold and miserable Poole Park.

Batting first the Cattistock openers started brightly and it wasn't until the score had reached 32 that Kirk (1-25) managed the first breakthrough with a fine caught and bowled. Kirk and a fasting Allam (0-18 off 9 overs) gave way to the twin spin attack of the two league debutants Rushton (Rusty) and Jackson (DJ). With appreciable turn both bowlers used the conditions to their full advantage with Rusty taking 2-12 off 8 overs and DJ 3-17 off 6 overs. One of Jacksons wickets was a superb catch from Quinn in the deep, without doubt an early contender for catch of the season already! The first rain break of the season meant that overs would have to be reduced with Wormington (0-16) and Wilson (2-20) having to bowl the last 6 overs of the innings. Cattistock ended with 111-8 off 36 overs.

Another rain break ensued but with bright skies overhead hopes were high of a resumption. Unfortunately conditions were deemed unplayable by the umpires and the game was cancelled.

Cattistock 111/8 from 36 overs

Gollege 26

Jackson 3/16

Match abandoned

Poole Town 9 points. Cattistock 6 points.
